In a £5M investment programme, Irvin-GQ has re-located its research, development, production,
sales and support activities from Blackmill in Bridgend, to a new 110,000 square foot site in
nearby Llangeinor.
Following the formation of Irvin-GQ in 2001 by the merger of Irvin Aerospace and GQ Parachutes,
production at the Blackmill factory has been expanding. UK demand for Irvin-GQ parachutes
combined with several significant overseas sales have necessitated the move and the creation of
up to 200 new jobs over the next two years. The move has been supported by grants from the Welsh
National Assembly and the Welsh Development Agency.
The company manufactures a range of Airborne/Special Forces and cargo airdrop parachutes for the
United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence and export customers. In addition, a long established
relationship with Martin-Baker Aircraft Limited has resulted in Irvin-GQ parachutes being
integral elements of the ejection seats fitted to a range of current and future combat aircraft
including the Eurofighter Typhoon and the US F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). Irvin-GQ also
manufactures the braking parachute for the Eurofighter Typhoon which is just entering full
scale production for the air forces of the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Irvin-GQ forms part of UK based Airborne Systems Limited which also controls parachute design
and manufacturing companies in the USA and Canada.
