In April 2003, as part of a £5M investment and expansion programme, Irvin-GQ moved to
new production and office facilities at Llangeinor in South Wales. In a further
rationalisation by parent company Airborne Systems, Aircraft Materials Ltd (AML) formerly
located in Newton Abbott, Devon has now re-located all manufacturing, design and sales
activities to Llangeinor and is co-located with Irvin-GQ.
Established more than 50 years ago, AML is a world leader in the design, development and
manufacture of a wide range of:
- Systems and equipment for the airdrop of cargo
- Systems and equipment for the handling and transportation by air of cargo
- Metal fittings for parachute, restraint, rescue, safety and survival systems
A long association between AML and Irvin-GQ has resulted in AML supplying most of the metal
fittings for Irvin-GQ parachutes and safety/rescue assemblies. In addition, many
of the cargo airdrop delivery systems in use by the UK and other Airborne Forces, such as
the Platform Aerial Delivery System (PLADS) and the Rigid Inflatable Boat Delivery System
(PURIBAD), comprise parachutes supplied by Irvin-GQ and platforms supplied by AML.
Irvin-GQ, AML and AMFast Limited comprise the UK Division of Airborne Systems Limited which
also controls a North American Division with companies in the USA and Canada. Airborne
Systems itself is a UK company wholly owned by Alchemy Partners.
In association with one of the US companies in the North American Division (Para-Flite
Incorporated), Irvin-GQ and AML are developing major components of the XT-11, the US Army's
Advanced Tactical Parachute System (ATPS), the planned replacement for the T-10.
