The Irvin-GQ Naval Decoy is a rapid response, inflatable, passive radio frequency (RF), floating
countermeasure system that is ship deployed and effective against radar homing missiles and
surveillance radar.
The decoy incorporates a passive array comprising a series of radar reflectors. Radar Cross
Sections (RCS) in excess of 500,000 m2 can be achieved. Operation is fully automatic and
immediate. Full radar cross section is achieved within seconds of launch into the sea.
The decoy can be fitted to a complete range of small and large vessels, is easily installed,
simple to operate and maintain, and inexpensive when compared to more complex ECM systems.
The decoy can be used in the seduction, distraction, confusion and signature management roles,
and is particularly suited to littoral operations.
Irvin-GQ Naval Decoys are in service with the United Kingdom's Royal Navy, the US Navy and
other NATO navies as integral elements of current and future ECM capabilities.
